Fire Safety Management
Every employer, owner or occupier has a responsibility to ensure that their premises comply with current fire safety standards, and these can be complex and confusing. This can be case even if you’re in a multi-occupied building, for though you may have joint responsibility, the same level of accountability still sits on your shoulders. If you add to this that no two buildings are the same, you swiftly come to realise that knowledge and experience are critical for ensuring a business operates compliantly.
At Abbott Rose, we can provide help, advice, and guidance on many aspects of fire safety management, so that you as a business owner or manager can have peace of mind. Our services include:
- Fire Safety Consultancy
- Fire Risk Assessments
- Fire Extinguisher Inspection
- Evacuation Procedure Testing
- Guidance on Fire Safety Training
Fire Safety Consultancy
The complex and detailed nature of fire safety management can make it very hard for an organisation to be sure they are fully complying with the myriad of safety regulations that exist. Training up, and then maintaining that level of knowledge in-house, can also be expensive. But this need not be necessary because an external fire safety consultant can offer the necessary expertise instead.
At Abbott Rose, we can provide consultancy and advice across all industry sectors regarding fire safety. Additionally, we can evaluate your compliance against the requirements set out in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and then recommend actions and improvements if any are identified. Put simply, with us involved you have experts giving you peace of mind.
Fire Risk Assessments
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires employers to carry out fire risk assessments for their place(s) of work. And whatever type of premises you operate from, whether it’s an office, a warehouse, a construction site, or a shop, this needs to be done and then reviewed on a regular basis.
At Abbott Rose, we are regularly commissioned by organisations to carry out these inspections on their behalf and then provide a report identifying all aspects of fire safety, classifying our recommendations for control measures in order of priority. If you’re seeking expertise working on your behalf to give you peace of mind, we can help.
Assessment of Fire Extinguishers and Other Fire Precaution Measure
Your premises must be provided with adequate fire precautions where necessary such as fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, fire doors etc. and these precautions have to be inspected and maintained to meet regulation requirements.
For example, fire extinguishers have to be chosen for their suitability for both the first hazards identified in their vicinity and the class of fire upon which they would be used. Plus they must also be inspected, serviced and replaced at regular intervals.

At Abbott Rose, we can assist in identifying and locating fire extinguishers appropriately. And though we don’t actually provide the fire extinguishers themselves, we do have affiliate companies who can assist in this area. We can also arrange and manage regular inspection and maintenance of fire alarm systems, emergency and escape lighting, and signage if required too. With us working on your behalf, you can be assured that your fire precaution measures are fit for purpose and you are compliant with regulatory requirements.
Evacuation Procedure Testing
It’s important that all employees are familiar with your fire evacuation procedures and know how to follow them efficiently and effectively. Ideally, fire drills should be carried out twice a year, though this may need to be more frequently depending on the risks present in your workplace.
At Abbott Rose, we can arrange for test drills to be carried out and then provide a report reviewing your level of compliance and recommendation changes that need to be made.
Guidance on Fire Safety Training
As an employer, you have a responsibility to provide suitable instruction and training to your employees. This training should cover the fire precautions within your workplace, and also the actions staff need to take in order to safeguard themselves and other people in the event of a fire. It’s important that training is repeated periodically, and the number of individuals that need to be trained has be to a suitable ratio to overall staffing levels, bearing in mind sickness and holidays etc.
At Abbott Rose, we can guide you on the training your employees require and recommend the most appropriate courses to meet your and their needs.
