Health & Safety Documentation – Ensuring Compliance

That sounds daunting and, yes, there can be a lot to think through. But don’t worry. At Abbott Rose we’ve been helping organisations ensure they have the correct health and safety documentation in place and are fully compliant for over twenty years, so we can provide you with the support and guidance you need. 

Health & Safety Policy

Your health and safety policy needs to identify the arrangements and individuals responsible for the effective management of health and safety in your organisation. Through experience, we know that every business has its unique aspects and no one size fits all. We can assist you, therefore, in developing a health and safety policy specifically for your organisation that takes into account all aspects of work carried out. Plus we can also provide guidance to those responsible for the day-to-day management of health and safety to ensure they are able to fulfil their duties.

Health & Safety Process and Procedures Manual

Often complex tasks require a specific process or procedure to be documented. In providing this, any new member of staff, or member of staff stepping in to cover sickness, for example, has a step-by-step guide then to follow. And not only does this ensure they can be up and running swiftly, but that they can operate safely too.
At Abbott Rose, we can develop the necessary Health & Safety Process and Procedures Manual to ensure you are both compliant in this regard and can continue to operate efficiently when staff changes occur. 

Risk Assessments

Risk Assessments are a key requirement under the Management of Health and Safety Regulations (specifically Regulation 3). However, in truth, they make business sense too, for they give your employees peace of mind. Of course, a pragmatic approach needs to be taken, for though significant risks must be addressed, trivialities should not be given too much weight. 
At Abbott Rose, we can work with you to identify and develop the right balance with respect to carrying out risk assessments, to ensure you operate compliantly and your staff are safe. However, we can also assist you in implementing control measures to ensure a Safe System of Work (SSW) is adopted.

Competent Persons

Regulation 7 of The Management of Health and Safety Regulations requires that a competent person is appointed to ensure compliance with regulations. This person can either be directly employed by the organisation or be an external advisor. With this in mind, Abbott Rose can act as your appointed advisor to fulfil this requirement, and in doing so will be able to provide specific advice and guidance as required.

Health & Safety Audit & Inspection

The only way an organisation can evidence that their Health & Safety Policy and associated procedures are being implemented and complied with is to carry out regular health and safety audits and inspections. At Abbott Rose, we can carry out these audits and provide reports that highlight both good practice and, if required, guidance on where further improvement is required. We can carry out these inspections either in-house or as accredited advisors. And our reports can then be used to guide your Safe System of Work and improve compliance.

Accident Investigation

Accidents (unplanned and unwanted events) unfortunately do occur. When they do, though, it is essential for an organisation to conduct a thorough investigation to identify trends and, where necessary, adopt alternative working practices. 
At Abbott Rose, we can carry out detailed investigations on your behalf and identify the immediate cause and root cause of an accident or incident. Our reports and recommendations are then an important tool for ensuring repeat events don’t occur. Plus, they can also be used for insurance purposes when required.
