11/9/2020 To PPE .... Or Not![]() Construction workers not having PPE is like driving a car in the dark without lights - it’s just not safe. PPE is essential for all construction workers, as we work in potentially dangerous environments, and correct safety measures need to be in place. During the coronavirus pandemic, we saw prices of PPE rise to amounts we have never seen before, not only in the UK, however in the US and across the world. One US news outlet explains ‘The cost of personal protective equipment is skyrocketing - more than 1,000% in some cases - as the coronavirus pandemic continues.’ Construction is a key driver in the economy and therefore in order to boost the economy at this difficult time, construction workers were some of the first to go back to work. In order to work safely, PPE was needed, however, we were faced with much higher price points for products we need on a daily basis. If we do not supply our employees with the correct protective equipment, we risk their health and wellbeing.
In times that are already difficult enough for businesses, construction workers faced, and still face shortages of protective equipment and when you add the increase of prices, we ask why are we, construction workers, having to pay more for a standard piece of equipment, which keeps us safe?
